Iceland: Nature’s Treasure And Northern Lights Tour (8 DAYS/ 6 NIGHTS)

from $2,969$5,289

One might think, with its rich culture, history, and folklore, that Iceland would be the epicenter of all things magical. Dragons. Mythical Gods. Invisible Children. Elves. Fairies. Trolls. Giant Christmas cats that eat children. Iceland has it all.

Which is why Iceland is also so amazing to experience. Not just the beautiful scenery, the rustic charm of the countryside, the midnight sun, the Icelandic people’s respect for nature, or the magnificent sights, sounds, and tastes that is Iceland, but its culture on top of all that. It’s Iceland’s culture that helps bring all those magnificent aspects together of that tiny little island just outside the North Pole, that make it so wonderous.

When exploring Iceland, pay close attention to that which you cannot see. Those are the Elves of Iceland. The Icelandic people so strongly believe in elves, that it is incorporated into their daily lives, with roads paved in unusual patterns as to not disturb the elven communities, and even have empty seats in their classrooms to allow for the elvish children to attend human schools. You feel the magic when you are there, walking the streets, standing on the shore, or getting lost in a field that houses an Elvish Church and paying respect to that which is invisible to us.

It’s easy to see why so many novels, including the Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones, were inspired by this beautiful, magical little island. Come see why with Elite Voyages “Nature’s Treasure and Northern Lights” 8 Days/ 6 Nights tour. You will discover the magic behind the inspiration, relax in a natural hot spring made of volcanic rock, walk the black sand shores, experience geysers and glaciers, visit Icelandic farms, and catch the Northern Lights on this amazing, once-in-a-lifetime trip. 5. Day 5 Thingvellir National Park - Gullfoss - Geysir

Golden Circle of Natural Wonders – Tasting at Dairy Farm – Friðheimar Horse and Tomato Farm

Iceland’s Golden Circle showcases a trio of celebrated natural attractions, including the dramatic Gullfoss waterfall and the geothermal fields of Geysir Hot Spring Area, alive with boiling mud pits, steam vents, and exploding geysers. Its centerpiece is Thingvellir National Park (UNESCO World Heritage Site), where Viking settlers established an annual assembly in AD 930 which has become the world’s oldest ongoing parliament. Thingvellir is also a geological masterpiece, as it marks the visible site of the mid-Atlantic Ridge where the North American and Eurasian continental plates meet. Following the road through the fertile countryside, stop to enjoy some local flavors at Efstidalur dairy farm, which specializes in homemade skyr, an organic Greek-style yogurt that has been enjoyed as a breakfast staple and dessert treat in Iceland since Viking times. We also make a stop today at the Friðheimar Horse and Tomato Farm. Here we will see how Icelanders produce tomatoes year-round and get an introduction to the Icelandic Horse. The journey ends today in the small town of Selfoss with dinner. (B, D)

    6. Day 6 Reykjanes Seacoast - Blue Lagoon - Reykjavik

Traveling along the breathtaking seacoast of Reykjanes Peninsula, visit Strandarkirkja, a small wooden church widely believed to radiate special powers for increased luck and success. Although the church is typical of rural Iceland, it is built right into the coast with amazing views of the turbulent ocean waves meeting volcanic rocks and black sands. Look for a quaint set of painted elf houses nestled in the church grounds. Drive to Lake Kleifarvatn, set in fascinating, stark, moon-like surroundings. Near the lake’s southern end lies Krýsuvík, where powerful jets of steam escape from deep below the earth’s crust and sulphurous steam rises from numerous geothermal vents. You can see numerous small hot springs, mud pots, boiling pools and other types of geothermal activity. Continue under low mountains along the shoreline to stop by craggy cliffs rising sheer from the sea.

Proceed to the town of Grindavík with its sizeable fishing fleet. After a lunch stop in Grindavík (To Be Paid Directly), head for the nearby Blue Lagoon. End today’s sightseeing with a visit to the world-renowned Blue Lagoon. Set in a black lava field, this geothermal spa is a lagoon filled with warm mineral-rich seawater that provides the ultimate interaction and relaxation with Iceland’s raw nature. Bathe in the lagoon and enjoy a sauna with lagoon views, a cozy steam-bath carved into a lava cave, and an energizing geothermal massage waterfall. Be on the lookout for white buckets located throughout the lagoon which contain the famous silica-mud. Rub some of this onto your skin to soften it, an essential part of the Blue Lagoon spa experience. Return to Reykjavik where the evening is at your own leisure. (B)
